As we enter the season of Advent, we prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus. This birth was prophesized in the Old Testament. Often we hear the prophecy from Isaiah 7: 14 that a virgin will have a child, a child called Immanuel. Think of that! A virgin giving birth! Not humanly possible! To be named Immanuel, which means “God with us”. In the Genesis reading God was with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden at creation – God was with Adam and Eve.
Immediately after the fall into sin God tells the serpent that even though the serpent will strike his heel, He will crush his head. God has the ultimate power. At the beginning Satan led man to the “D’s”. Doubt – questioning God’s Word and his goodness. Discouragement – make us look at our problems and not to God. Diversion – Make the wrong things look attractive so that we want them and not the right things. Defeat – Makes you feel like a failure or at least not capable. Delay – makes us put off doing something so that it never gets done. But in the midst of all the D’s…God has a plan to save Adam, Eve, you and I.
Prayer: Take a minute to reflect on your failures then thank God for planning to save the world through Jesus Christ.
